Any Peoria County registered voter may complete a permanent vote by mail application. If granted by the Peoria County Election Commission, the applicant would be entitled to permanent vote by mail status, which allows the applicant to vote by mail in all subsequent elections. The voter can choose to receive ballots for all elections that do not require a party designation (general elections only) or the voter can choose to receive ballots for all elections and indicate the party ballot they would like to receive in all elections.
Any Peoria County registered voter seeking to change their party designation prior to ballots being mailed must submit a new permanent vote by mail application, which can be submitted either in person at the Election Commission office or online at Permanent VBM Application.
Any Peoria County registered voter who has obtained permanent vote by mail status and wishes to vote for a party other than the one designated on their permanent vote by mail application, must:
If the voter is requesting this change prior to Election Day
- Bring the issued ballot to the Peoria County Election Commission office for surrender. If the voter is unable to physically come to the office, see below*.
- Vote Early in the office or complete a new Application for Vote by Mail**.
* The voter can mail the ballot back to the Election Commission office with a note indicating the need for a different party ballot and a way for a member of the staff to reach you. (phone number or email address).
** (If the change in party designation is just for the current election, an election specific Application for Vote by Mail will be completed. If the party designation is for all future primary elections a new Permanent Vote by Mail Application will be completed.)
If the voter is requesting this change on Election Day in the Polling Place
- The voter must surrender the ballot to the Election Judges.
- Vote at the Polling Place after completing a new Application to Vote.
- If you would like to change the party designation for all future primary elections a new Permanent Vote by Mail Application will need to be completed. This is your responsibility to complete, either in person at the Election Commission office or online at Permanent VBM Application.
