[ARCHIVED] Election Commission Statement on Mass Mailing

Peoria County – The Peoria County Election Commission would like to address the content of a mass mailing recently sent to registered voters within the Dunlap School District.

The mailing was sent by Citizens for Dunlap School District 323 and cites the Peoria County Election Commission as the source for voting history of each candidate, specifically, “voted in the Dunlap School Board Election in past 5 elections.”

While voting history is public information and available at both the local and state level, the data must be requested and may only be used for political purposes. Voting history states a ballot was cast; it does not indicate the races and/or candidates voted for. No data request was received from the Citizens for Dunlap School District 323 by the Peoria County Election Commission. The Election Commission is not taking a position on the accuracy of the voting history data represented in the mailing.
