[ARCHIVED] Peoria County Election Commission Reminds Voters: No Campaigning Within 100 Feet of a Polling Place

The Peoria County Election Commission would like to remind residents of the Illinois Election Code Law stating that no person(s) may campaign—or have any type of campaigning materials--within 100 feet of a designated polling place. This law not only includes political speech or signage, but also extends to clothing and face masks/coverings.

“We appreciate that so many of our voters are making the decision to wear protective face coverings to help reduce the spread of germs at our in-person polling places,” stated Thomas Bride, Executive Director of the Peoria County Election Commission. “That said, if you choose to wear your face mask to the polls this year, it cannot have a candidate’s name or their slogan on it.”

This law falls under 10 ILCS 5/17-29 within the Illinois Compiled Statues. The law can be viewed on the Illinois General Assembly website at: https://bit.ly/2TD2OWe.

The Peoria County Election Commission continues to offer multiple Early Voting locations throughout Peoria County this week and weekend. More information about Early Voting can be found on the Election Commission’s website at www.peoriaelections.org/174.
